age of jackson / reform movements - Political
One of the acts that was set in place by Andrew Jackson was the Indian Removal Act. This funded the process of removing all of the Indian tribes found from the areas that were to be colonized and moved them to the great plains in the west, called the Indian Territory. It was believed that by doing this and getting the tribes out of the way it would end the conflict between the colonists and tribes. they chose the Great Plains because they believed that this area would never be settled due to its lack of anything except grass. This is also the reason why in a lot of Indian videos you see them running with the buffalo in vast fields. Before this movement it was not like that with most of the tribes. Most people thought this act was a solution to their problems, even though it ruined the lives of many tribes and some, including the Cherokee, fought back. The Cherokee however fought back through the courts, and won rights to the land. However this was not enforced by Jackson or the police so they were still forced to move.
