civil war - Political
Abraham Lincoln is a name that almost every single American has heard. He is often represented to have wanted to free the slaves. This however is not entirely true. In fact, in the Emancipation Proclamation, he allowed for some of the states to keep slaves in fear of losing them to the confederacy and the main reason for freeing the slaves in the south and north was to make it so the Confederacy lost their workers and so they would hopefully join the army in a fiery rage against the Confederates. And that they did. But with his "black favoring" and war drafts he angered the people and even though he as much as them wanted to end the war, he was assassinated. On April 14, 1865 Lincoln attended a play at Ford's theater. During the play, John Wilkes Booth slipped into the booth Lincoln was in and shot him in the back of the head. Even worse, Lincoln managed to stay alive until 7:22am the next morning, struggling for breath and unable to move. This, being the first presidential assassination, shocked the country, who just days early had started rejoicing in the end of the war. this one event changed the coarse of history forever.
